The Southern superstar who’s best known for his work in the original Ghajini is finally set to spread his magic on the Hindi audiences. After being a reigning name in the Southern industry for quite some time now Ram Gopal Verma is finally bringing Surya to Hindi screens in his upcoming venture Rakhta Charitra.
The film is based on real life incidents and Surya will be playing the character of Maddelacheruvu Suri whilst co-star Vivek Oberoi will be playing Paritala Ravindra. Shatrughan Sinha and Southern actress Priyamani (soon to appear in Mani Ratnam’s Raavan) will also be seeing in pivotal roles.
Speaking about the film Surya expressed his excited to a leading tabloid, “I found a message in my inbox saying ‘I loved your intensity in Kaakha Kaakha.’ It was from RGV. I had always wanted to meet him. After reading that mail, I met him and we’ve been good friends since. For a long time, I’ve wanted to work with him and then, Rakta Charitra happened. This film is not fantasy. It is inspired by the life of a person who still exists. I play the character of Suri in this film. This is my first pan India film; still, for me, this is a Tamil film.”
But one is left to wonder what inspired the very unpredictable RGV to take on this film and this story. He answered this question when speaking to the press. “I’ve always been interested with topics that deal with the dark side. This movie is based on true incidents that occurred in interior Andhra Pradesh. I wanted to make this movie in many languages as it needs to be told to as many people as possible. It is a violent film but the violence is in the emotion. It has individualistic and extreme characters”.
The film is said to be releasing in two parts as the full length of the film spans to a total of 5 hours. A three-month gap is anticipated between the two parts. August 2010 is the planned release date of the film and the recently released teaser trailer is making audiences even more excited for the release of this much talked about project.
