WILL IMRAN-KAREENA JODI WORK AT THE BOX OFFICE?
Over the years, Bollywood failed to come up with a nice love story or romcom during Valentine’s Day time. But thankfully, this year, there are 2 such films that will hit the screens, one before the festival of love and one after. The first one is Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu (EMAET) that is all set to release tomorrow.
From the promos, EMAET looks like a fresh and lovely story of 2 drastically opposite youths who get married in a drunken state at Las Vegas. Though this reminds one of What Happens In Vegas, the fact is that both the films are as different as chalk and cheese. One of the highlights of EMAET will be Imran Khan’s characterization. The actor plays a confused and boring guy who is completely dominated by his parents in every sphere of his life. Moreover, his parents in the film are none other than Boman Irani and Ratna Pathak Shah. Imran’s scenes with Ratna were the highpoints in his debut film, Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na and it would be great if they both recreate the same magic. Also, it would be fun to witness Imran and Boman for the first time. However, the film rests on the excellent chemistry between Imran and his co-star Kareena Kapoor. Although Kareena is older to Imran in real life, the same doesn’t reflect at all in the film promos and posters and moreover, both look fabulous together. The songs of the film are by Amit Trivedi and although aren’t topping the chartbusters, the album has got a reasonably favourable response! As mentioned above, promos are fresh and it seems debutant director Shakun Batra (who played the bespectacled Pappu in Jaane Tu) knows his job well!
However, there are few odds going on against the film. The film is a coming of age love story and involves characters getting married in drunken state, thereby undermining the institution of marriage held sacred by Indians. Moreover, there’s a scene in the promo where the couple were asked presumably by a counselor/marriage authority whether they had sex and Kareena replies that yes she did but not with Imran! Scenes and moments like these in the film are bound to be disapproved strongly by the traditional thinking audiences. And like every other film that looks promising from the promos, EMAET too has high chances of turning out to be a disappointing fare. And this would surely prove detrimental for the commercial prospects of the film.
EMAET definitely won’t have a record opening like Agneepath but is surely expected to open decently. And if film gets thumbs up, it would surely excel on Saturday-Sunday and also on Tuesday (Valentine’s Day)!

AYESHA TAKIA-SIDHARTHA MALLYA WAR OF WORDS: MY VIEWS!
If SRK-Shirish jhagda dominated the news last week, this week the place was taken over by the war of words between Ayesha Takia and Sidhartha Mallya. It all started with a hate tweet by Ayesha on Twitter about Ayesha’s sister Natasha’s bad experience with Kingfisher Airlines, owned by Sidhartha’s dad Vijay Mallya. Readers started retweeting Ayesha’s tweet and also tagging Sidhartha and thereby informing him about the same. The Mallya scion retaliated in a very harsh manner and soon it led to a huge fight between the 2.
According to airline officials present at the time of mishap, Natasha was to blame and that they never tore off her boarding pass, as alleged by her and Ayesha. Even if the Takia’s were at fault, the accused party is supposed to respond in an ethical and professional manner. But instead, Sidhartha, despite not knowing the true picture makes insulting remarks like “Not too sure who she (Ayesha) is, an actor of some sorts?”
Sidhartha’s father Vijay is known to care a lot for his customers and has even personally responds to the complaint mails sent to him. It’s high time his son gets some lessons from his dad!
