India’s first zombie movie is already on its way and is set to be released on 1st April nationwide. Reportedly, the casting has been just finalized for the first of its kind Bollywood movie with Abhay Deol playing the lead role. The movie has got a hilarious name – “Shaadi of the dead”.

In the female lead is the southern and Bollywood star Genelia D’souza, whose casting has been done after a consideration between the competing heroines, Kareena Kapoor and Anushka Sharma.

The movie will be directed by Navdeep Singh of ‘Manorama Six Feet Under' fame.

He enthusiastically said to AFP- “We feel this idea of a zombie film is very fresh, it is something that has never been tried in the Hindi film industry and so we feel it will work”. He goes on to add ".This is a high concept, crazy comedy. It will be Bollywood's first zombie flick. The film's tone is Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge-meets-Shaun of the Dead."

While this would be the first zombie flick to be released by Bollywood industry, other filmmakers are also considering the idea to quite an extent. The directors of “Shor in the city”, Raj Nidimoru-Krishna DK are working on a movie called “Go Goa Gone” which also features zombies. The movie will be starred by Saif Ali Khan in the lead role and Kunal Khemu will also be present in a significant role. The movie shows how a bunch of fun loving youngsters gets attacked by zombies. The director duo is leaving no stones unturned for giving the movie a polished and internationally appealing shape. It is reported the crew for the movie comprises of technicians, stylists, make up men and cameramen etc. are all foreign based. “Yes, all our actors will surely look their part with the help of VFX, make-up and prosthetics. We aren’t going to stop short of anything to make a good film,” admits Krishna.

Actor Vir Das of “Delhi Belly” fame is also reported to play a substantial role for the movie while the female lead is a newcomer who is supposed to be a New York based theatre actress. With such a international cast and crew, its beyond doubts that the directors are eyeing the international market too along with the home success.

There are talks about another zombie movie named “Bollywood zombie” which is believed to be under development.
