Prakash Jha’s films are mostly based on reality and that is a known fact. be it a glamorous star-studded larger-than-life drama like Raajneeti, Jha has certain dos and don’ts about the way his actors and actresses should appear before the camera.
No makeup in Prakash Jha’s range of camera vision means absolutely no makeup. It was therefore no surprise to know that Deepika Padukone appears without even a dab of lip-gloss in Aarakshan, wearing the most ordinary salwar-kameez outfits reminding everyone including Prateik Babbar, of Prateik’s late much-missed mom Smita Patil.
On the streets of Bhopal where she is shooting, Deepika passes off as just another face in the crowd.
Last week while doing a huge breakdown scene with Saif Ali Khan in the artificial rain with absolutely no accessory or adornment on her person, Deeepika pulled out all stops to deliver a rousing performance that left everyone including the Big B impressed.
Says a source from Bhopal, “It was a long sequence in artificial rain where Deepika confronts Saif. We don’t know what triggered off that huge powerhouse of emotions in Deepika. But she simply broke down. We suspect Deepika referred back in her own life to feel the agony of her character reaching out to a man who won’t express his love.”
Confirming the high-velocity sequence with Deepika, director Prakash Jha says, “This is not the first time that Deepika has surprised me with her emotional intensity in Aarakshan. She is tapping into areas of her emotional reservoir that she has never touched before. That’s why the intensity.”
