It would have been a great cinematic experience to see Abhishek Bachchan play the younger version of daddy Amitabh Bachchan in an upcoming film. But disappointingly, Jr Bachchan has lost the role to Abhimanyu Singh of ‘Gulaal’ fame. Grapevine has it that Chandraprakash Dwivedi is making a film ‘Kunal Avadan’ based on the relationship between Mauryan Emperor Ashoka and his son Kunal and had thought of roping in Abhishek.

But when the director saw Abhimanyu Singh’s work, he chucked the idea of casting Abhishek in the film and approached Abhimanyu instead. A source said to a news daily, "Dwivedi was keen to have Abhishek play Bachchan Sr`s younger version. But After Dwivedi saw Anurag Kashyap`s film ‘Gulaal’, he thought Abhimanyu Singh had done a superlative job and wasted no time in casting him. He felt he could play the younger Ashoka very well," said the source.

Abhimanyu Singh confirmed, "At this juncture, I can`t reveal any details. But yes, I have been approached to play the role. It is a big honour for me."

"As I am from Patna where Ashoka lived, the honour is doubled. My parents stay about two kilometers away from Agam Kua, a historical site where Ashoka killed 99 people and threw in the well before his life-altering experience during the Kalinga war," the actor added.
